MSKT End-Terminal Technology Saves Lives in High-Speed Crash
JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. — In a demonstration of strength and dependability, an MSKT end-terminal successfully absorbed the impact of a car traveling over 100 mph, saving the lives of all involved.
According to WTVD-TV, the incident unfolded June 22nd, on I-40 near the 320 and 322-mile markers. North Carolina Highway Patrol was in pursuit when the fleeing vehicle veered on I-40 onto I-95 South and attempted to take exit 79. The vehicle impacted a MASH Sequential Kinking Terminal (MSKT), which played a crucial role in mitigating injuries at the scene. Thanks to the MSKT end-terminal, the vehicle was brought to a controlled stop during a potentially dangerous situation.

The MSKT’s innovative design includes a terminal head that slides over the W-Beam guardrail during head-on collisions, sequentially kinking the rail. This kinking process actively absorbs the energy and safely stops the vehicle. This incident underscores the importance of highly effective guardrail systems like the MSKT in preventing fatalities and serious injuries on the roadways. The successful performance of the MSKT in Johnston County serves as a powerful testament to its life-saving capabilities, reinforcing the need for continued investment in roadside safety hardware for our Nation’s infrastructure.
