Driving Safety Forward: “Cone Zone” Initiative and ATSSA Chapter Activity

In September, Ohio ATSSA Chapter members got together and heard from Lt. Herron and Lt. Grewal who shared their “Cone Zone” initiative to increase driver awareness of work zones and provide guidance on navigating construction sites safely.

Representative McClain, the chair of the House Transportation Committee, was also in attendance. The group discussed how ATSSA and the transportation committee could assist each other with promoting driver awareness.

The committee also spoke about Ohio House Bill 429 which provides increased penalties for causing harm to workers in construction zones and provides additional required training for student drivers. House Bill 429 was introduced by Representative Gary Click and is being advocated for through groups including ATSSA, Ohio Contractors Association, State Highway Patrol, and various other organizations.
